Welcome to The Tox Drop: My Journey Into Low-Tox-ish Living.

Updated: Mar 18

Back in October 2023, I knew I wanted to try for a baby soon, and like any slightly obsessive planner, I went into full prepare-my-body-for-baby mode. I wanted to be the healthiest version of myself, whatever that meant, so I started looking into nutrition, prenatal vitamins, and the usual pre-baby checklists.

Then I read something that stopped me in my tracks: Pregnant women should avoid phthalates.

Cool. But... what the hell are phthalates?

That one innocent Google search sent me straight down the rabbit hole of toxins lurking in our everyday lives such as our beauty products, cleaning supplies, food packaging, clothing, even baby products!! I had never questioned what was in my shampoo, my candles, the plastic containers I keep my leftovers in, or the rotisserie chicken in plastic under heat lamps at Costco...(I'll have a blog about that one later) But suddenly, I couldn't stop.

Fast forward to 2024, and I dedicated the entire year to learning everything I can about low-tox living. And let me tell you, once you see it, you cannot unsee it. It's like I took off my rose-colored glasses and put on toxic-detecting night vision. Everything from my laundry detergent to my couch cushions was suddenly suspect. And being pregnant only made it worse. Every choice felt bigger. Every ingredient list felt longer.

That's why I started The Tox Drop- to share what I've learned (and what I'm still learning) in a way that makes it easier, not overwhelming. Because let's be real, no one has time to read a thousand studies on BPA or decipher the 50-syllable ingredients in their moisturizer. I'm here to TOX-DROP the info, the swaps, and the straight-up facts, so you can make cleaner choices without losing your mind.

If you're new to this world, welcome. If you've already been side-eyeing your plastic cutting boards and containers for awhile, you're in good company. Either way, I'm glad you're here. Let's detox this place-one swap at a time.

Thank you for doing this! I know there’s toxins everywhere but I really try not to think about it or else it stresses me out. I’ve been trying to make small changes, like switching to bamboo cutting boards and getting rid of plastic containers. But there’s still so many plastic products we still use, it’s hard. But I’d love to know some other swaps I can make to make our home a healthier place!
